What is the Order of the Eastern Star?
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world and welcomes both women and men as members. With members worldwide, the Eastern Star is a social order grounded in spiritual values, though it is not a religion.
At its core, the Order celebrates the beauty and character-building lessons portrayed through its rich ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists among its members, fostering a wholesome relationship characterized by sisterly and brotherly love. This bond is nurtured through high principles exemplified in our lives, drawing us closer together.
While the Order is composed of individuals with profound spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The personal welfare of our members is a priority, and it is regarded as a privilege to support one another whenever possible.
What is the purpose of Eastern Star?
The stated purposes of the organization are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal, and Scientific; but there is much more to it than that.
Dr. Rob Morris, the Poet Laureate of Masonry, founded the Order using beautiful and inspiring biblical examples of members. Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and examples, build an Order which is truly dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness.
Is the Order of the Eastern Star a secret society?
The Order of the Eastern Star is not a secret society. Unlike secret societies that operate underground and are difficult to find, we are openly present within our communities. While out, we do enjoy a distinctive way of identifying with one another.
What we teach within the Order is not a secret; however, the methods by which we convey these teachings are unique to our fraternal order. This approach fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among our members while preserving the special nature of our practices.
